Coals

With a wide breadth of products, reliable global sources and an unparalleled technical staff to ensure you choose the right quality product for the job, PTC Chemicals is your one-stop-shop for coals for any application - ground, screened and/or made to spec.

Anthracite Coal (Hard coal) - The cleanest burning coal and choice fuel for many industries, Anthracite Coal is also used as a carbon additive in iron and steel, as a reducing agent, in industrial applications including charcoal briquettes, glass carbon, friction materials and in ground form as an additive in plastics and polymers.

Electrically Calcined Anthracite (ECA) - Relatively high in carbon content and thermally and electrically conductive compared to un-calcined anthracite, ECA is also low in moisture, volatile matter, and sulfur. Used primarily in the manufacture of Prebake electrodes, Soderberg and tamping pastes, and carbon blocks, it’s also an excellent smelting additive due to its high purity and consistency.

Gas Calcined Anthracite Coal - Similar to ECA, this material differs as it is calcined with gas-fired furnaces instead of electricity. The calcination process temperature of gas calcined anthracite is typically lower than the calcination temperature applied to electrically calcined anthracite: this results in less physical changes to the coal matrix.

Low Sulfur Bituminous Coal (Bit Coal)/Sea Coal - Used as a binder for foundry sand addition, brake linings and other industrial applications, or as a filler, additive, or component in applications requiring high-volatile coal, Bit Coal is is extremely low in electrical conductivity.

Filter Media - An anthracite coal-based material used to filter water and sewage, filter media is available in many sizes (0.6 to 2.2mm) and uniform conformity of 1.5 or 1.65. Our filter media also complies with ANSI/NSF Standard 61 and exceeds the AWWA Standard B100

Carbon Fibers

With an extensive line of chopped and milled Carbon Fibers produced from Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), Oxidized PAN and Petroleum Pitch (Pitch) precursors, PTC Chemicals can easily provide the right fiber surface configuration for even your most demanding applications. This relatively low density material offers excellent versatility and mechanical properties including high tensile strength and modulus, as well as thermal and electrical/EMI shielding properties.

Widely used in composites, automotive, gaskets, and other applications, our available sizings include epoxy (water soluble made from epoxy resin ester), glycerin (hydrophilic for water dispersed systems), hi-temp, polyurethane (for most resin systems), and polyamide / polycarbonate / polybutylene terephthalate, and unsized.

Our team of technical experts will help you select the right length from our full array of fibers and manufacturers to optimize your project and keep it reliably sourced.

Carbon Black

A leading processor of carbon black, PTC Chemicals provides high-quality furnace black, thermal black, acetylene black, lamp, and conductive black grades in bead, ground and powder form. Used in many applications, ranging from thermal materials and conductive plastics to polymer reinforcement and common fillers, it’s often an additive to coatings, dispersions and other compounds. The material provides UV protection, adds pigment to enrich colors, and can increase viscosity and gloss of a non-pigmented coatings.

With particle sizes ranging from 16 to 280 nanometers, and options to meet FDA-specifications for food contact, PTC Chemicals experts can help you choose the optimal grade of this unique amorphous carbon solid based on tint, primary particle size, structure and conductivity, if required.

Activated Carbons

Widely used as gas and liquid stream adsorbents for organic and inorganic substances or to remove toxic agents from wastewater and process effluent gas, activated carbon is also an excellent decolorizer that can remove even the toughest organic dyes.

PTC Chemicals offers a wide range of activated carbon products, including those manufactured from:
bituminous coal (considered a Mesopore with a radius of 1-25 nm)
coconut shell (considered a Micropore with a radius of less than 1 nm)
wood (considered a Macropore with a radius greater than 25 nm)

This includes Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC), Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and pelletized options. Simply talk to our team of experts to determine the pore size and base material needed to source the right product for your job.
